ZEC launches its 5-Year Strategic Plan

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) launched its  5-Year Strategic plan at a colourful ceremony held at Rainbow Towers on 21 February 2011.

The occasion was graced by the Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs Hon Patrick Chinamasa, who was the  Guest of Honour, representatives of other electoral management bodies from the SADC region, representatives of the diplomatic community from the SADC region in Zimbabwe, representatives of other constitutional Commissions, political parties, government officials, Genesis Global Finance consultant, UNDP, Africom, Cyberplex consultant and several other stakeholders including the media and the academia.

In addressing the gathering, the Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs congratulated ZEC for the achievement.

“Let me begin by congratulating  the Chairperson  of ZEC, Hon Simpson V. Mtambanengwe, the Deputy Chairperson, Mrs. Kazembe, Commissioners and the Secretariat for this achievement”.

The Minister also assured the Commission of Government support in translating the Plan into measurable outputs.

“We are all aware that the country remains under sanctions and is struggling to recover from the effects of these illegal economic sanctions. I therefore would urge the Commission to bear with the Government on the timely delivery of resources. I believe ZEC`s immediate needs will be met sooner than later” said the Minister.

He further implored the Commission to remain professional and focused in the discharge of its mandate and avoid `playing to the political gallery`.

Mbira dzeNharira provided entertainment for the guests.
