Requirements For Chief Election Agents & Election Agents

REQUIREMENTS FOR CHIEF ELECTION AGENTS AND ELECTION AGENTS
1. CHIEF ELECTION AGENTS
Presidential Election
In the case of a Presidential Election, no later than forty-eight hours before polling
day a Presidential candidate may appoint:
a. Two National Chief Election Agents;
b. One Provincial Chief Election Agent for each Province; and
c. One Constituency Chief Election Agent for each constituency.
And shall forthwith notify in writing the full names and the addresses of the persons
so appointed to the Chief Elections Officer
Constituency and Ward Elections
 Before nomination, on or after nomination day but no later than seven days before
polling day a candidate may appoint one and only one person to be his/her Chief
Election Agent. The candidate must notify the full names and address of his or her
chief election agent to the Constituency Elections Officer.
 If a candidate revokes the appointment of a Chief Election Agent or if the Chief
Election Agent dies the Candidate may appoint another Chief Election Agent and
must notify the Constituency Elections Officer not later than 3 days before polling
day of the new appointment and the full names and address of such chief election
agent.
 Any two designated National or Provincial office-bearers of a political party may, on
behalf of its candidates contesting in any constituency or ward within a province
submit lists of chief election agents and the candidates they represent to the
Provincial Chief Elections Officer. This must be done not later than twelve days
before polling day. The Provincial Elections Officer will then distribute the lists to
every constituency elections officer in the Province concerned.
2. ELECTION AGENTS
Not later than three days before polling day the Chief Election Agents may appoint
one or more persons to be election agents and must forthwith notify in writing the
full names and address of every election agent so appointed to the constituency
elections officer in the case of Constituency and ward elections and to the Chief
Elections Officer in the case of the Presidential Election.
Of the Election Agents appointed:
 One shall be entitled to be present in each polling station in the
constituency in which the candidate is standing for election; and
 Two shall be entitled to be present in the immediate vicinity of each such
polling station. Either one of the two election agents in the immediate
vicinity of the polling station may relieve the election agent entitled to be
present in the polling station
Where more than one election is to be held concurrently the Commission may by
Notice in the Gazette published not later than four days after nomination day
prescribe that in relation to candidates nominated by political parties, only three
election agents representing each political party may be present within or in the
immediate vicinity of each polling station. Of these three
 One shall be entitled to be present in the polling station
concerned;
 The other two shall be entitled to be present in the immediate
vicinity of the polling station concerned and may relieve the
election agent entitled to be present in the polling station.
Note: this provision, however does not apply to election agents of a candidate for
election as President.
Note: All Chief Election Agents and Election Agents shall be issued with an
accreditation card and shall be required to exhibit such Accreditation cards at
all times.
Anything done by an election agent shall be deemed to have been done by the Chief
Election Agent.
