ZEC Beefs Up Staff Complement

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has gone on a recruitment drive targeting to fill 173 posts ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.

According to statistics provided by ZEC Human Resources Department, out of the 173 targeted posts, 104 posts have so far been filled leaving 65 posts.

If all 173 posts are filled as per the 2022 target, the Commission will be left with 165 posts to reach its full complement of 685 employees.

The Commission held a 3-day Induction workshop in Chinhoyi for some of the newly appointed employees to acquaint them with the Commission`s mandate, mission, vision, values, organisational structure, etiquette and conditions of service.

Speaking at the Induction workshop, acting Chief Elections Officer Mrs Jane Chigidji, urged the newly appointed employees to uphold the Commission’s Constitutional obligations.

“As new ZEC employees, is pertinent to note that you are joining a constitutional body that is non-political, in terms of Section 236 of the Constitution”, she said.

She further highlighted the need for the new staff members to adhere to the founding values and principles of the Constitution in relation to issues of multiparty democracy, universal suffrage and equality of votes in addition to the conduct of regular free and fair elections.

She also implored them to respect the rights of all citizens as they go about their duties.

“As ZEC employees you need to uphold the rights of all citizens of Zimbabwe as you carry out your duties. It is also paramount to be gender sensitive in whatever you do”, she said.

The new employees filled posts of Administration Officers, Administration Assistants, Accountant Assistants as well as ICT and Voter Registration officers in Provinces and Districts.
